In order to tackle the problem of the prevailing linear model (cradle-to-grave) and to promote Circular Economy (CE), a holistic solution that considers all aspect of the life cycle rather than one stage alone is required. Hence, the ReMed work programme covers 6 areas:
To review and assess the technical approaches in support of circularity using methods such as desktop research, focused workshops, industrial survey, end-user interviews, and consultations.
To identify a portfolio of materials to support design for circularity and to develop a materials selection process for promoting CE.
To evaluate and optimise the business and operational management system for the circular use of small MDs and to generate guidelines for their application.
To assess the economic value of the circular use of small MDs in the NHS by modelling their cost-effectiveness.
To develop reconfigurable bespoke remanufacturing and recycling technologies which enable a higher percentage of small MDs to enter the CE.
